AAOS News
| Become an Official Supporter of the STOP Sports Injuries Campaign Today!
The STOP Sports Injury campaign Web site
continues to gain speed with our 60 health, child safety, sports and
recreational organizations joining the campaign. Become an official
supporter of the campaign by filling out a simple online form and then
submitting your practice, institution, or sporting organization logo and
bio to Lisa Weisenberger at lisa@aossm.org. We will then list it on the STOP Sports Injuries Web site. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, too!
The
STOP Sports Injuries campaign also has added several new resources to
the site, including downloadable public service announcements and tip
sheets on hockey, golf, and lacrosse with other new additions to include
rowing, wrestling, figure skating, skiing/snowboarding, and martial
arts. A new blog also has been started. If you have questions or need
more information, please contact Lisa Weisenberger at lisa@aossm.org.

| FDA recalls Fentanyl Transdermal System | The
U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall of the Fentanyl
Transdermal System-a system used in the management of persistent,
moderate-to-severe chronic pain that requires continuous,
around-the-clock opioid administration for an extended period.
Laboratory testing identified a patch that released its active
ingredient faster than the approved specification. The agency states
that an accelerated release of Fentanyl can lead to adverse events for
at-risk patients, including excessive sedation, respiratory depression,
hypoventilation (slow breathing), and apnea (temporary suspension of
breathing). FDA has asked wholesalers and retailers to return any
product they have on hand or in stock from certain specified lots.
